Kostegian, a retired Taylor teacher, boasts a coaching career that spanned 46 years and included boys and girls basketball, football, baseball, tennis, and cross country at six high schools: Taylor Center, Kennedy, Truman, Redford Thurston, Allen Park and Aquinas.
The bulk of that time was spent coaching varsity basketball at Kennedy (1964 to 1980) and Truman (1983 to 1994). Kostegian’s basketball teams won many league championships and he was named coach of the year six times between 1959 and 1990. In 1988, he was inducted into the Michigan School Coaches Hall of Fame.
Although now retired, Kostegian is still sought out by local coaches for advice and guidance.
