COVID-19 UPDATE: Beaumont continues outreach in many forms

COVID-19

Beaumont Health continues its outreach during the COVID-19 pandemic. Here is an overview of how it is responding to this ever-changing situation:

Daily COVID-19 test and admission statistics: In an effort to share COVID-19 testing and admissions information with the community, Beaumont will begin providing daily updates on its COVID-19 website.

This will include:

  • total number of patients tested by Beaumont for COVID-19
  • number of patients who test positive for COVID-19
  • number of patients who test negative for COVID-19
  • number of patients with pending COVID-19 test results. Beaumont has shifted mainly to COVID-19 testing within its own labs but will still use some outside national labs
  • number of patients tested for COVID-19 currently in a Beaumont hospital
  • number of patients tested for COVID-19 and sent home

Beaumont COVID-19 online risk assessment tool: This online tool in its first day had more than 16,500 users. This tool allows patients to answer a series of questions about their symptoms to help them determine whether to stay home or seek medical attention. After answering the questions, the online tool will suggest what action a patient should take, such as:

  • contacting a primary care physician
  • going to one of our eight Beaumont curbside screening locations
  • seeking treatment at an emergency room
  • staying home and monitoring symptoms

Coronavirus hotline - 800-592-4784: This number connects people with Beaumont nurses and staff to risk assess and answer questions related to COVID-19. About 5,000 calls are received a day; in total, about 30,000 calls have been logged since the hotline went live.

Curbside screening: Since this option began on March 16, Beaumont is screening 1,500-2,000 people a day at eight sites. This screening is only for patients who have symptoms consistent with COVID-19 (fever, cough and shortness of breath).

COVID-19 lab test: Beaumont began testing for COVID-19 in its labs on March 16. It is currently run 400-500 tests per day in our labs and have completed more than 3,300 overall.

Scenario planning: Looking ahead, Beaumont developing plans to meet a surge in need for medical and ICU beds, pharmaceutical drugs and supplies, blood supply and personal protective equipment, among other critically important resources. Also evaluating what alternate sites of care could be made available. Beaumont Health has 3,429 acute care beds and is doing dynamic modeling for the conversion of 500, 1,000 and 1,500 beds to COVID-19 patients mainly with advanced respiratory issues.

Because this situation changes rapidly and often, please visit Beaumont.org/coronavirus for our most updated information.
