Two rounds of Golf, two beautifully manicured courses and two winners in each of the nine divisions capped a hot and steamy City Championship. The 2006 version of the Taylor City Golf Championship featured its share of history with some players marking their 16th consecutive tournament. The sold out event had 128 players from Taylor and surrounding communities. This unique event uses both Taylor Meadows and Lakes of Taylor Golf Courses to test the participants.
On Saturday, July 29, 2006 the 87 Men, 14 Women and 27 Senior players qualified at Taylor Meadows on some of the fastest greens of the year. The undulating greens were hot and dry and made more than a few good players humble. After the first rounds the players are ‘flighted’ into 9 groups and play against only the players who scored in the same range, keeping the competition strong for all.
Day two of the tournament is played at Lakes of Taylor where the longer holes present a different challenge. The greens were soft from the heavy rains on the previous few days so they were very receptive to good shots. “Definitely the best course conditions we’ve ever had" said Les Molnar, the winner of the Mens Third Flight.
Closest to the pin contests were held on each course. Saturday winners at Taylor Meadows were Joe Felice on #5, and William Hicks on #12. Sunday winners at Lakes of Taylor were Leandrew Banks on #5 and Chris Bronis on #17.
