2010 Taylor City Championship
July 25 and...August 1

The biggest story out of the 2010 Taylor City Championship was definitely the weather. The night before the sold out first round, Taylor Meadows received about an inch and a half of rain closing the course. The first round was rescheduled for Sunday at Lakes of Taylor, which was postponed for an hour due to rain as well.  The remaining 96 players teed off at 8 AM on a rain soaked course that played long,  but the greens were very receptive to approach shots.

The end of the first round found Steve Avery and Alex Watkins leading the field with 73, closely followed by Steve Neuman and Dr. Mark Mann with 74.  Fritz Reifert was able to post 76 to lead the seniors, Daniel Gregg (77) trailed by just one stroke.  The Women’s Division was lead by Heather Neuman (87) over Liz Houston (89).

With the Championship flight cut line at 79 like in past years, Frank Migliaccio lead the first flight with an 80 followed by Paul Battistelli, Joe Denino, Tom Morris Jr. and Ben Neuman who all posted 81.  Neuman, Dave Mitchell (Championship Flight, 76 day one), and Andrew Lang (First Flight, 82) would shoot the lowest scores on day two, one under par 70. Ben Neuman’s 70 was good enough to take the lead in the first flight and Andrew Lang finished one behind in second place.  Dave Mitchell was able pass four players to take second in the Championship Flight two strokes behind Alex Watkins. Watkins was able to retain his lead by shooting even par at Taylor Meadows, and finishing two strokes in front of Mitchell.

Heather Neuman and Liz Houston started round two separated by just two strokes, Liz was able to shoot a 91 in round two but Heather was able to match her score and win the division. The same was true in the Senior Flight with Fritz Reifert and Daniel Gregg both shooting 74 at Taylor Meadows separating themselves from the rest of the field finishing first and second.
